There and back again

2 hours meeting, 8 hours shinkansen ride plus 1.5 hour subway/taxi ride in Nagoya and Sendai combined. That's what my day was like today. Since I hate train food and we were on a tight schedule I had nothing to eat the whole day and my butt hurts from sitting on a train for so long, but tired as hell I am finally back home. Rest is well deserved and I am going to do something recreational on Sunday *plotting*
以上!( ̄▽ ̄)

OK, the subject of the entry is a shameless lie since I came back from the Netherlands two weeks ago. However, I didn't have an internet connection most of the time since my return so this is a "tadaima" post. Anyone missed me? No? ....I knew it >_>;
Anyway The Hague was really nice and it was great to see friends I rarely get to see these days since we live on the opposite sides of the world. Once again I didn't have time to go see Amsterdam, but I walked around the Hague a little and went to Mauritshuis and Escher museum. Here, have a random picture of the town ;P

I arrived back to Nagoya on Sunday morning two week ago and spent the whole day packing. I went to work the next day (my last day there!) and once I got back home in the evening I continued packing until 4a.m., slept for a couple of hours then woke up to pack the last of my things. I had just barely managed to seal the last of the cardboard boxes by the time the movers came. And I stayed up until midnight unpacking everything and cleaning my new apartment. I don't think my body ever hurt as bad before as by the end of that day ;(
Remember my magic D'espa box in the previous entry? Here it is all unpacked, but hardly in its most presentable state for the moment. With everything D'espa related I own I can make a museum. Maybe I should frame some pictures 8D

The rest of that week was spent settling down, getting my car (so cute! ♪( ´▽`)ノ), buying new furniture etc. Last week I started a new job and so far let's just say that I am having the worst cultural shock ever. Five years too late! lol Seriously, I didn't have it this bad five years ago, when I first came to Japan, actually I don't think I even had any sort of cultural shock back then. I guess one company is different from another and academia is something entirely different once again too lol すごい異文化を感じてる。 Also a disadvantage of working in the car industry is that we don't get national holidays off (instead we get over a week long holidays in January, May and August) so today, while the rest of the country had the third consecutive day off, we had to work. Oh well.
Back to the topic of D'espa, I bought Angelo's Babel because it came with a ticket for an instore event this Sunday, but I'm not sure yet if I'm willing to go all the way to Tokyo for it. I want to meet Karyu, but if it's just him.... I'm not sure. And I'm not impressed with Babel at all. Kirito's voice is not my thing in the end and I can't help but wonder what My Strife would sound like if Hizumi sang it.

packing, packing, packing

I took a day off today, because I wanted to rest a little before going to The Netherlands on Sunday. I have no last moment work left to do before the trip and both my students are trained and prepared too. Well, sort of, now they just have to memorize the right words I taught them to say.
Did I mention I took the day off, because I wanted to rest? I was so naive. Like I have time for that! I decided to go to look for furniture for my new apartment. I need new stuff for a living room since I'm throwing away my old sofa, coffee table and all carpets. I think I got an idea what I want, but I spent all day wandering from one furniture store to another. Then when I got home, I started to pack and spent the rest of the evening at it. So far after several hours I have all my books packed. Not much of a progress! I'm coming back from Europe next Sunday, work the last day on Monday, then move to a new apartment on Tuesday and my new job starts Monday after that. I'm not sure how am I going to manage to do everything without passing out from exhaustion at some point ;(
I also packed my most prized possessions: all D'espa related stuff like tour goods, T-shirts, drumsticks, signed stuff etc. etc. Kankiwatarou family is also packed now. I swear if something happens to this box during the moving I'm going after movers with a chainsaw! >;O

I haven't even started on my CD/DVD collection not to mention clothes, kitchen stuff etc. *cries*
Anyway I'm looking forward to the trip to The Netherlands. I've been there once before, 6 years ago, but as always I was too busy with work to see much of it. I hope I will have a chance to look around a little this time, it's been a while since I went to Europe ;)

Kyoto trip

I finally got off my couch to write about this week's trip to Kyoto. I must say I had been feeling quite comfortable there lazing around watching Burn Notice and dozing off from time to time, but let's get this out of the way ;)

Kyoto tripCollapse )

2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. Each and every year I spent September 9 with D'espairsRay.
Somehow 2011 ended up being not so sad and lonely after all. Tsukasa suddenly came to play on pigg (ameba's interactive chat room) and he sang enka and pranced around and then together with everyone sang Happy Birthday song. Zero peta'd everyone on ameba and Hizumi posted "happy birthday" and "thank you" messages on twitter.
Happy Birthday, D'espairsRay! たくさんの素敵な思い出をありがとう!何よりもいつも幸せでありますように!

And I feel this coming over like a storm again now.
I am too connected to you to slip away, fade away.
Days away I still feel you touching me, changing me.

Good night!
Their story is anything but simple. However, translation related post is not a place for the translator’s rant. Rant was yesterday (see previous entry), today it's just a translation and Hizumi's words.

Same as before:
I will appreciate any help if there are any mistakes or something needs to be corrected.
Please do not repost it anywhere. I prefer to keep the translations to my own dark little corner and be responsible for my mistakes and the words I choose.

HIZUMI’s interview for ROCK AND READ vol. 037Collapse )

I didn’t want to say anything until I heard them try and explain what happened, the breakup announcement was hardly enough, and at the same time I found it hard to put everything into right words. But Hizumi’s Rock and Read interview was the proverbial last straw. I understand that there are a lot of things he cannot say, but I still get so annoyed at the fact that he writes everything off as his throat problems. If only that was the only thing they had to deal with! The fact that I cannot shake off the feeling that he tries really hard to get things across without actually spelling them out, only aggravates me more. How Japanese of him.
But it’s all secrets of Polichenelle anyway. A conflict with the management and no rights over their music and their own name, which belong to the label, thus no royalties whatsoever from CD/DVD sales etc. Being paid months later or not at all like in the case of their share from goods sales at Yokohama Blitz final (at least that was the situation when I heard about it back in June, 6 months after the live). They were left with no income while the label cashed in from sales of Yokohama final DVD and another forced “Best of” album. So much for members’ designed goods! So much for “Buy CDs, support the artists”! Even Love Parade lives that reeked of desperation from the start to the end meant that whatever money they made playing under a different name was theirs and the management could not come and take it away. This is what they were reduced to or chose themselves over bending over and playing a farewell live as D’espairsRay: a cover band playing in a tiny live house with a bunch of shitty bands and even their staffs helped them out without any pay.
Asia’s showbiz, be it Korean or Japanese, is notorious for slavery contracts, exploitation of the artists and almost nonexistent royalties. Unfortunately D’espairsRay is a tragic example of a band worked to death and, when they no longer could or wanted to continue, they were discarded. It’s been two and a half months, but I still feel the same rage over what was done to them and I don’t think it will ever change. A part of me is also resentful of D’espairsRay for being so stupid, naïve or just so very desperate to make music that they got themselves into this mess and their only way out was the breakup, that they let some scum in business suits use me, their fan.
I do have hope that they will be back. Be it under a different name, with different songs and after who knows how many side projects, I don’t care. It will still be the four of them together. The fact that they posted on twitter about having a long UMBRELLA-related meeting together only fuels that hope more. Because if it didn’t go well, if they didn’t come up with some sort of a plan, I doubt they’d say anything.
In the end I can only repeat what I already said back in June: mediocrity and vulgarity prosper and flourish, while the ones with a heart and talent get crushed by illness and others' greed. But I hope from the bottom of my heart that they have strength to pick themselves up and, as Hizumi said, we will meet again one day. Strange how much they came to embody their name for me: 闇と光.
Hizumi’s Rock and Read interview translation is almost done, I just need to proofread it one last time. I’ll post it tomorrow, I just can’t bring myself to do it right now. But I needed to get this off my chest.
Now it is finally time to tell the story of all stories, kids. Make yourself comfortable and get ready for the story full of adventures. And brace yourself, because it will not be only very long, but also quite brain-damaging *cackles and rubs her hands gleefully*

D'espairsRay FC trip 線を創る蟻の行列ツアーCollapse )

Yesterday was the last day of an exhibition of D'espairsRay's instruments at Buddy Soundworks store and I think on a spur of the moment the day before D'espa decided to go there and have a three hours signing session (it lasted almost an hour longer in the end). Of course, the moment I read an announcement I sent a message to N. saying "Let's go to Tokyo tomorrow!" (she was quite perplexed about what I meant since she got it before she read the news of the autograph session lol) and started digging through my closet looking for something cute to wear. There was no way in hell I would miss a chance to meet D'espa!

Rockstar wannabe

I went out with a mania friend yesterday and I am so blaming it all one her. She made me do it! She made me buy that T-shirt! ヽ(`Д´)ノ But it looks good on me so it's OK ;P
See for yourself.

Rockstar Karyu (photo from FC trip):

Rockstar wannabe me (ignore weird lights that made the color look different and unsightly background):

I love the T-shirt and I like the back even more than the front, it's also very detailed and neatly done. Very expensive too *sigh*
I have fallen so low I am cosplaying Karyu. Sort of lol
I know, I know... I should be writing the FC trip report. I'll get started on it some time soon. I guess >;P
